Reflections on Philanthropy in Pittsburgh

A key component of the Pittsburgh Philanthropy Project is a narrative book of fourteen commissioned essays on topics that support the central theme that innovation continued to occur in philanthropy in Pittsburgh over time. Authors will be drawn from among scholars, philanthropic leaders or authoritative commentators knowledgeable about the region or subject matter. The focus will be on leadership, values, innovation and untold but important elements of the Pittsburgh story.

This book should contribute a Pittsburgh-based but universal lens to the understanding of philanthropy’s global evolution. The book and its complementary activities should provide historians, practitioners, policy makers, scholars and students with an even richer window on place-based philanthropy.

Kathleen W. Buechel serves as the book’s editor. The project is unfolding through collaboration with The University of Pittsburgh Press.
