The Project will publish a core timeline about the evolution of philanthropy. In time, the oral histories will enrich this central chronology through several topical storylines.
The oral histories offer compelling individual portraits of recent philanthropists and foundation leaders. They also present a rare view of how key actors shaped important milestones in Pittsburgh’s philanthropic story.
Drawing from the oral histories, a series of thematic, web-based storylines will be created, to enhance specific topics contained in the book. Posted periodically prior to the book’s publication, these video narratives will be illustrated with historical and other images that should bring the story of Pittsburgh philanthropy to life. The public will be invited to comment and to nominate other potential topics. These timelines will provide educational, informational and civic engagement opportunities not readily available elsewhere.
The first prototype will be published in early 2012.
